NorthStar Learning

NorthStar Learning was launched in 2013 and is a fully-owned subsidiary of jim ice & associates. The mission of NorthStar Learning is to provide full-service development options to the small and mid-sized company.  Leveraging the expertise of our founder and our various partners, we design and deliver custom ‘Edu-coaching’ programs with the desire to help leaders build their leadership and business acumen – the ability to make good, quick decisions. 

 

We design and deliver training workshops and learning experiences for the individual, team and organization.  For example, the ‘Practical Leader’ Program, is a series of 4-6 targeted leadership workshops designed to build skill every current or future manager need to effectively lead people. 

 

Dr. James (Jim) Ice, MHCS
– Founder, Principal

James (Jim) Ice is an Organizational Sociologist and strategic leadership advisor. He is the owner of jim ice & associates and NorthStar Learning a strategy development and talent management consulting companies, located in Pittsburgh, PA.    

 

For over 35 years he has built his reputation as a trusted advisor to thousands of leaders, across the globe. He has worked with organizations across industry sectors, to implement strategic integration, organizational change initiatives and global servant leadership development. A partial list of clients include: Pfizer, Ford, Harley-Davidson, Textron, Hillenbrand, Fidelity Investments, Westinghouse, Alcoa, Heinz; Industrial Scientific, Matthews; Mine Safety Appliances (MSA), and Accenture. 

 

Jim holds a master’s degree in organizational strategy and a doctorate in leadership.  He is a Gallup certified executive coach and holds several professional certifications, including Master Human Capital Strategist (MHCS) from the Human Capital Institute.  His coaching practice specializes in the targeted development of Start-up Leaders and Physicians/Surgeons.   

 

Dr. Ice is a high-energy, thought leader who consults on issues of talent strategy, workforce assessment and alignment, strategic planning, organizational integration, employee engagement, change leadership – all with a focus on building leadership capability.  Dr. Ice is also a talented  process facilitator who brings practical experience and process models to address workplace issues with humor and an orientation toward action.  

As a Professor of Practice, he has designed and delivered graduate and executive education courses in leadership, organizational behavior, strategy, communication, program design/evaluation and business ethics at Purdue, Penn State, Carlow and Point Park Universities.  Jim is the author of several articles, blogs and white papers on topics related to talent development.

Jim and Christine, his wife of 35 years live in Pittsburgh, PA.  They have three adult children.  Jim serves on several boards and is active philanthropically, most notably with the James Connection Non-profit (www.jamesconnection.org), which operates a orphanage with 150 children in remote India.
